A trip to legendary Cleopatra island is the most popular excursion amongst romantic couples. However, all sort of tourists holidaying in the popular resort of Marmaris, are eager to visit the famous island.
The Sedir island (its geographical name) is located in a gorgeous Gokova bay, which is considered the most beautiful bay in the whole Turkey. Covered by olive and pine groves shores come directly to the sea. The sea has mirriad shades of turquoise and blue. No wander that this part of the Aegean sea is called “The Turkish Maldives”.
The excursion starts with a 30 minutes transfer on a comfortable bus, which will deliver you to a little port. There a traditional Turkish wooden yacht is waiting for you. These boats are great for sea voyages, because you can sunbathe on the second level and there are tables in the shades on the first level.
Before arriving to Cleopatra island, the yacht will cruise in a gorgeous Gokova bay, making breaks in the most picturesque places. You will visit Gelibodu island famous for its underwater caves as well as Incekum beach, known for its tiny and very soft sand.
Nothing can be better than swimming in absolutely transparent sea in paradise like places. There will be also s stop for swimming in Lacivert koy, where blue-green sea meets with high cliffs.
The Cleopatra beach is made up of very tiny and shiny, empty seashells
Before we head to the Cleaopatra Island, you will be served B-B-Q lunch on the lower deck of the boat. Finally the fantastic island comes into view. In reality there are three islands: Palace Island (Cleopatra Island), Central Island and Small Island. Cleopatra Island is the largest and most famous for its sandy beach.
The Cleopatra beach is made up of very tiny and shiny, empty seashells and it’s never becomes hot. Scientists think that it took millions of years to form this beach. According to history, this island was once the meeting place of Queen Cleopatra and her lover Mark Anthony. As the legend goes, it was Mark Antony, who ordered for sand to be delivered here from the Egypt.
Capricious Cleopatra was delighted to sunbath on soft and sparkling sand. The beach is protected by the Turkish government: tourists are not allowed to take away sand from the beach and bring here towels. You will have 3 hours on the island – enough for having a guided tour to the ancient city of Kedrai, swimming and sunbathing.
Take a stone path into the island to look at the well preserved amphitheatre and ruins of ancient Roman city. At the top of the hill are some remains of the Apollo temple, which was converted into a church in the Bysantine times. On the eastern shore can be seen remains of the ancient city walls and towers.
The Agora (a central square) contains huge stones in the shape of hearts and offers a delightful view of the surrounding mountains.
We would recommend this comfortable and exciting cruise to people of all ages. This very special place, where you can find white silky sand and crystal clear sea, definitely worth to visit. The excursion to Cleopatra island has a short transfer, so even little children can participate.
The sandy beach and shallow sea is perfect for small children and for those, who are not great swimmers. The trip is also suitable for older tourists, as it’s not tiring at all. Those, who love ancient history and archeology will be rewarded too.

Tour Reviews
Cleopatra island trip
A wonderful day at sea: you are on a big and lovely boat, which makes 3 stops for swimming in fantastic bays and finally comes to the famous Cleopatra island. We enjoied the whole cruise very much, walked around beautiful island. The sea was totally transparent… The sea is wonderful and very warm. We spent about three hours on Sedir island. We explored some ancient ruins, took many pictures with a camera. Be prepared, drinks on the island are expensive. Lunch was quite basic – chicken or fish and salad. They were not allowing to bring drinks on board, however people brought water and other drinks anyway. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED
